EVill Net FAQ
Q: What the hell is EVill Net?
A: EVill Net is a free wireless network in the heart the East Village.
Q: A wireless network, you mean if
I have a wireless (WiFi, 802.11, or
Airport) card in my laptop I can get high-speed Internet?
A: Yes
Q: Wait, So it’s like the service
in Starbucks or Bryant Park where
there’s wireless access for my laptop?
A: That’s right, but unlike Starbucks it’s F-R-E-E.
Q: Were exactly in the village can
I connect?
A: Most roof tops in the square radius of Ave A and Ave B, between 2nd
and 10th street. And through south facing window on the top floor of
these buildings. See the Coverage Photo
Q: Cool, so if go to my rooftop or
my friend's rooftop in that area,
I’ll be able to connect to the Internet through EVill Net?
A: Sure enough.
Advanced FAQ:
Q: So what’s the caught, why
is it free, and why are you doing this?
You must be collecting data on me and watching my every move. I’m
not
going to fall for this Big Brother poly to get me to connect to your
“EVill Net.”
A: Hold your horses. EVill Net collects no data on its users, beyond
making the network run more smoothly. EVill Net collects no private or
personal data. This is a community project and actually a really good
thing. It opens new areas for neighbor cohesion and gives the public a
more amplified voice.
Q: Uhm, all right, cool. Can I pick-up
EVill Net from street level
in this area?
A: No, just the rooftops and rooftop gardens. This technology is
“line-of-sight,” meaning if EVill Net’s antenna can’t
see the streets
you can’t get on from there.
Q: Is there anything I can’t
do on EVill Net.
A: Yes, sending spam, hacking the network, and do anything
illegal on EVill Net is prohibited. People who do this put the entire
network into danger from being shut down by The Man. So go try to hack
or break the law on Starbucks network or something NOT HERE.
Q: Excellent, I love it! I’m going to get online tonight.
A: Great, enjoy.
